Refunds or transfers for live classes can be made up to 24 hours before the start time. Cancellations after this window are non-refundable.

How much time do I need to commit?

Is there a free trial?

Yes, there is a 14-day free trial for Bonjour Brilliance. You get full access to the self-study resources during the trial and can cancel at anytime.

There are no free trials for live classes, however you can meet Ellie for a free consultation before joining. You can also pay as you go one class at a time for as long as you want.

Are there any free courses available?

Yes. There is a free self-assessment course that will help you find out your French Room fluency level and give you a free taster of how independent study at The French Room works.

How much does the subscription cost?

Bonjour Briliance costs £19.99 per month if you pay-as-you-go. You get 2 months free if you buy an annual subscription which costs £199.00 per year.

Can I cancel or pause my subscription?

Yes you can do this at anytime by going to My Account>Account.

You can also cancel one subscription and change to another one. 

For example, you can switch from pay-as-you-go to an annual membership or vice versa.

You can also switch between Bonjour Brilliance and Bonjour Brilliance +Plus on a monthly basis if you wish. 

What does the subscription include?

Full access to the online course materials, free attendance to the live Rendez-Vous Tutos, unlimited email or chat support and the Learn French libraries.

If you choose Bonjour Brilliance +Plus you also get 2 hours of private coaching included which you can take as 15/30 or 60 minute sessions.

If you buy an annual subscription to Bonjour Brilliance + Plus you can take your 24 hours of private coaching as and when you wish across the 12 months. i.e if you wanted to use 5 hours a week you could until your credits run out!

Iphone App users can set personal learning reminders for learning times. You may also choose to align your learning schedule with “Rendez-Vous Tutos” three times a week.

Ellie also sends out regular emails about the latest Bonjour Brilliance themes and Tutos to keep you in the know.

If you subscribe to Bonjour Brilliance +Plus, you can schedule regular coaching sessions with Ellie in segments of 15/30 or 60 minutes which will help you keep on track.

Yes, The French Room is accessible via website and app (iPhone app available), making it easy to study anytime, anywhere. The App has several extra features such as learning reminders, direct access into the school chat and the ability to download Tutos and watch them offline.

The French Room is also fully optimised for mobile viewing without the App so can be viewed on Android phones.

Do I need to install software for live classes?

Live sessions are held on Zoom. You may need to download Zoom for the best experience, but you can also join from your browser.

How do I access or update my personal data?

Log in to your account at any time to view or amend your data and adjust preferences. Go to My Account > Account to make changes.

Is my data safe?

Are there age restrictions?

The French Room is a language school for adults. The minimum age to join a live class is 18.

However, learners who are 16+ are free to subscribe to Bonjour Brilliance for independent study but not for private coaching.

What is a Tuto?

A Tuto is a short, bite-sized French lesson you can do anytime at your own pace. You need to be a subscribed member of Bonjour Brilliance to access any Tuto.

Where can I find Tutos?

If you’re a subscribed member of Bonjour Brilliance, you’ll find themed Rendez-Vous Tutos in Bonjour Brilliance and Library Tutos are in your Learn French Libraries.

What is a Rendez-vous Tuto?

It’s a live session where you can watch me record a new Tuto in real time. What you see live is exactly what you’ll get in the final lesson. Only subscribed members of Bonjour Brilliance can join these live sessions.

How do I join a live Rendez-vous Tuto?

Subscribed members can join via the Zoom link in their calendar on their My Study Page, from the Bonjour Brilliance course page and from the App. It’s a regular chance (3x/week) to check in live and keep your learning habit strong.

How do I find a particular Tuto in a library?

Each library is organised in modules or sections.

Collapsed List View  allows you to quickly browse an overview of all the sections in the library with a short description of what is in that section. To open a section, you click on the right down arrow. You will now see all the Tutos for that section in an expanded view. Click on a Tuto to open it.

Picture Tile View shows you all the individual Tutos with a descriptive title. Click directly on any of the tiles to open the Tuto.

Once you have chosen your individual Tuto you are now in the Course Player.

The Course Player Menu works by expanding or collapsing sections of the library in a list view to the left of the Tuto you are watching. . You can scroll the whole list for an overview or click on a section to expand it. You can then click on any Tuto in that list to view it.

The Tuto that you are currently viewing will be highlighted in the Course Player on your left.

Introducing the Course Player

When you have selected a Tuto to watch you will find yourself in the Course Player. The Course Player removes all distractions from your learning so you can purely focus on the Tuto you are studying.

You will see it even has its own navigation menu that only shows you the course or library that you are studying at that moment.

If you would like to move between libraries or visit other parts of the site, you will need to exit The Course Player first.

How do I switch between libraries?

The fastest route to switching between libraries is to use the top menu bar of the site "Membership Courses". 

You can also navigate to Bonjour Brilliance, any Library and any other course you are enrolled on from your My Study page.

If you are coming from inside the Course Player you will first need to follow the back button to the Course Overview page.

How do I go back to where I was in a library?

To pick up where you left off in Bonjour Brilliance or any Library, go to your My Study Page and scroll to the Progress Section. 

Select the image for the library you would like to return to and you will be taken back to the last Tuto you were studying in the Course Player.

How do I browse a library for inspiration?

The libraries are designed to give you lots of variety, spark your interest and give you the option to move through them at a pace that suits you.

Think of the sections as you would a book shop, or a physical library and the Tutos as books. Browse the sections either by Collapsed List View or Picture Tile View and find a level or a topic that sparks your interest. 

I also give recommendations in live classes and RDV Tuto Videos.

Remember though that you are moving through it one Tuto at a time, as you would a book or an episode of your favourite box set.

How do I see my progress in a library?

There are 3 places where you can view your progress

1. My Study page Progress Section will show you the overall percentage progression by Library
2.The Course Player navigation will show a tick by the side of any Tuto you have previously visited
3. Your App tells you the total number of Tutos you have watched across all Libraries, your total Study Time and number of days Idle. 

How do I watch Tutos offline?

You can download as many Tutos as you wish and watch them offline. They will remain available for as long as you keep them downloaded.

If you cancel your subscription you will no longer have access to downloaded content.

How long should I stay inside a library?


How long you stay inside a particular Library will be personal to you. It will depend on whether you want to focus on a particular skill, whether you are working through a particular level or could be driven by your curiosity.

If you are in any doubt as to whether your route through the libraries is a good one, please get in contact with Ellie. For example, if vocabulary techniques have come up in Bonjour Brilliance, and this has inspired you to expand yours, the Vocabulary Library is there to give you complimentary Tutos to help you do just that. 

How do I use libraries alongside Live Classes?

Before class, dip into a related Tuto to feel more prepared. After class, use a library to review, reflect, or expand on what you covered. It’s a great way to turn your class time concrete understanding and progress.

Level 1 – Begin Your French Learning Adventure (A0)

  • Start learning essential French grammar to get by when travelling. Find out how grammar makes sense of the language and gives you the freedom to create sentences and speak. Starting with the essentials of "Etre" and "Avoir"

Level 2 – Build Momentum: Create Simple Sentences with Ease (A1)

  • Find out about how to use the essential ingredient in every sentence "VERBS".
  • Build on what you know about "Etre" and "Avoir" and start using "ER" verbs and seeing how they work with other word types in a phrase.
  • You will also learn how to use adjectives to describe people and things, numbers, the time, the weather, saying who something belongs to and how to identify something as "this, that, the".
  • You'll find out how to say "something, someone, somewhere" and say where things are and when they happened "depuis, pour, pendant, en"

Level 3 – Join the Conversation: Everyday Chats (A2)

  • To be able to speak in everyday situations such as the market, you need to understand how different categories of words fit together in basic phrases. This gives you the freedom and confidence to start piecing together your own with increasing sophistication and flair.
  • This includes adverbs, "IR" and irregular verbs, reflexive verbs, modal verbs like pouvoir, vouloir and devoir, the verb aller, pronouns, giving orders, le conditionel (politeness/advice), making comparisons and saying "from" and "to".
  • Level 3 takes more time to cover in grammar terms. Once you have fully completed and understood these grammar points you will feel the difference in your conversation ability.

Level 4 – Build Fluency: Express Yourself with Confidence (B1)

  • Learn about using the past tenses in depth: le passé composé and l'imparfait. Discover the nuances of when to use each of these tenses and lay the foundations for using composed tenses.
  • Once you get this, tenses will no longer be a mystery to you.
  • Plus you will learn how to use qui and que, ask questions and use negatives, le futur proche, prepositions à and de after verbs, a focus on some special uses of verbs and how to clearly communicate the time when something happens.
  • Level 4 sees you develop a more natural way of speaking that requires less thinking time and more spontaneous speech.

Level 5 – Dive Deeper: Chat Like a Local in Real-World Situations (B2)

  • Get into the detail of the nuanced meaning behind le futur simple, le futur antérieur, le conditionel and my favourite le subjunctif.
  • Plus make logical connections between ideas and events using la cause, la conséquence, le but and l'opposition vs la concession.

You can even decide to set your learning times to coincide with my Rendez-Vous Tutos 3 times a week.

Are there any nudges or reminders to learn?

Yes. You can opt-in to receive email prompts from me telling what we will be doing in the Rendez-Vous Tutos 3 times a week plus a weekly summary on a Friday to remind you of the progress you have made.

You can also set yourself up with personal learning reminders on the app on set days and times to personally remind yourself to set aside time for your learning.

Will I get feedback on my progress?

Yes. You can see a ► next to every Tuto you have visited. Plus, you can see your percentage progress per course and library. 

You can even submit learning reflection journals as a record of your progress and receive feedback, pointers and next steps from Ellie personally as you progress along your pathway.

Can I ask questions if I get stuck?

Of course! I encourage you to do so. The best place to ask a help question is in the chat #Help. But you can also ask via the "Aidez-moi" button on the site.
