Part of the Guidebook Series: How to Use The French Room

You’ll find your chat inside The French Room once you are signed in.

You will only see:

  • chats everyone has access to
  • chats you have been invited to

This guidebook pages shows you how to use them.

The different chats and what they are for

The French Room Courtyard

This is the main French Room space.

I use this to:

  • share updates with the whole school
  • announce new content, events or changes

You can use it to:

  • ask a question
  • share something French-related
  • join in with what’s happening

Your group or class chat

Your group, your class, your preparation.

This is where I:

  • share what to prepare for your next Live Class

Check this before your class so you know what you’re working on.

Voice Mastery chat

There are two parts:

Group chat

  • I set the Monday micro task

Your private chat

  • you upload your recordings
  • I give you feedback
  • I suggest what to work on next
  • I may point you to specific libraries

Your recordings are the bridge between what you know and how you sound.

Access to the Voice Mastery chat is available to Voice Mastery subscribers only.

→ See: How to develop your voice in French
→ See: How to record and upload your voice

Private chats

A private space between you and me.

Used to:

  • communicate directly
  • keep track of your progress

Available to private students and Voice Mastery subscribers

Event chats (Nîmes, Book Club, Cookalong)

Used for:

  • organisation
  • timings
  • practical information

How to use the chat

On desktop

  • Select a chat from the left
  • Type your message
  • Press partager (to share) to send

You can navigate to the chat from
- the top menu
- my study
- email notifications

On mobile

  • Open the chat
  • Tap into the message box
  • Use the three dots to access options
  • Send your message

Notifications

  • If I tag @all
  • everyone in that chat will see it
  • it appears as a notification when you open your chat

    Only Ellie can tag @all

If I tag @your name

  • you will receive an email
  • this is used when something is specifically for you
  • you can tag your fellow students if you have written a message that is of specific interest to them

A simple way to think about it

  • Courtyard → whole school
  • Class chat → your preparation
  • Voice chat → your speaking and feedback
  • Private chat → direct communication
  • Event chats → organisation
