Why these classes feel different.

The French Room Level 4 Live Class isn't a class where you simply learn the next grammar point.

Every session has a clear purpose, whether that's overcoming a fear, understanding the intention behind a structure or becoming more familiar with the way French really works.

You prepare beforehand in your Cahier, experimenting with ideas and bringing your own questions and examples to class.

Together, we explore one idea in depth, make connections, learn from each other's thinking and put it into natural conversation.

Rather than rushing on to the next topic, we return to important structures until they stop feeling like grammar and start feeling like French.

Example of Actual
Level 4 Live Class Notes

These Level 4 notes show how one small phrase can become a thread running through several weeks of French. Starting with je te passe le sel, the group explored pronouns, pronominal verbs and the different ways French can express the same idea, before consolidating everything through work in the Cahier. Each class builds deliberately on the last, so you are not simply covering grammar points: you are making connections, reusing familiar structures and gradually turning them into French you can recognise and use with more confidence.

Example of Actual Cahiers Discussed in Class

Every Cahier looks different. Learners bring their own notes, questions and connections into class, giving us real French to explore and discuss together.

Meet your tutor

Ellie Louis

I founded The French Room in 2015 and have now taught adults for more than 10,000 live hours.

I teach every Live class myself, which means there is continuity from one class to the next and I get to know the people in the room: their strengths, their sticking points and what they are trying to say.

I direct the learning journey, respond to what happens in the class and write the comprehensive Live Class Notes that keep the whole group connected—even when someone cannot attend.

I learned French as an adult, living it, one word and one question at a time. That is how I teach it.

Not sure which Live level is right for you?

Meet Ellie before you choose.

Complete the form and Ellie will contact you to arrange a short conversation. You will look at the French you already understand and use, where you tend to hesitate and what you want to be able to do more easily.

Ellie will then recommend the Live group where you can take part comfortably while still being stretched.
