Part of the Guidebook Series: How to Use The French Room

The hardest part about vocabulary is that there seems to be so much of it—and it soon becomes obvious that trying to record, categorise, and remember it is pretty tricky.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

The Vocabulary Library is here to help you build a working relationship with French vocabulary—so you can remember it, guess it and use it with ease in real conversations.

👩‍💻 What the Vocabulary Library Is For

This Library helps you:

  • Learn French vocabulary in context, not isolation

  • Focus on the words you actually need

  • Build confidence by using vocabulary in speaking and listening—not just memorising lists

Learning Strategies That Make Vocabulary Stick

The real transformation happens when you stop trying to memorise and start learning how to work with words.

In the Library, you'll learn how to:

  • Learn faster and remember longer

  • Reuse new words with confidence

  • Build habits that help you make vocabulary your own

These strategies—like placing words in your personal catalogue, spotting gender patterns, or linking to English roots—aren’t just handy tips. They’re powerful learning tools that can reshape how you approach French language vocabulary for life.

How to decide what to study

The Library is based on The French Room Fluency Levels and aligned with the Vocabulaire progressif du français books by CLE International.

You can:

  • Start at Level 1 and build from the ground up

  • Brush up on basics like numbers and alphabet

  • Dive into a specific theme and follow it through all levels

  • Learn by habit—exploring strategies and techniques at any level

No matter where you start, you’ll be moving forward with intention and clarity.

The Course player for the Learn French Libraries works in the same way as for Bonjour Brilliance. If you are not sure how it works please take a look at this post in the guidebook.

Why It Works

Flashcards and TikToks show you words. The Library shows you:

  • Where those words fit in a sentence

  • How they sound in real French

  • Why they’re useful in real life

  • How to remember and use them again

It’s how vocabulary becomes something you own, not just something you’ve seen.
