FAQs - French lessons at The French Room

Will my French lessons be with a live tutor?

Yes, all your French lessons at The French Room are with a live tutor. These are live classes just as they would be if you came to us in person. The classes are tailored to you personally, to the group or for your own shared class. They are full of variety and work on all aspects of the French language at a pace that suits you.

How long is the course?

At The French Room we have students who have been with us for their learning for the last 7 years and others who dip in and out. You are free to choose how, when and with who you learn. We don't run courses as such, rather we have 5 levels and you work at your French at that level until you are ready to move up.

Our class pass and single class purchase system means that you can choose to have as many or as few hours of teaching as you wish.

The class pass buys you 10 hours of your chosen French lesson type or you can just pay as you go.

How long will it take me to learn French?

Typically students taking an hour a week, can expect to move up a level in their French at the end of their first year. We offer lots of additional learning resources with our home learning platform The French Study. Students who take both live French lessons and do home study using The French Study make faster progress.

I did some French at school what level will I be at?

You might be surprised at just how much of your school French you can remember as you start to unlock it.

As a rule of thumb, if you did French to O-level or GCSE level (UK) , you will likely be at a level 2 or 3 at The French Room.

If you did A-level, you will probably want to join us at level 3 or level 4.

For those who have studied French at university or have lived in France, we would recommend level 4 or 5.

I don't have Zoom. Can I still have classes online?

We find Zoom to be most comfortable way to learn with us online. If you are joining a group class then you will need to download Zoom to come to a lesson.

If you are having private classes or shared classes with your friends and family, we could look at other options, although we have yet to find a system that works as well as Zoom.

Is there a course book?

Yes. We recommend various course books for our different levels.

How do I book into a class?

You can book your class online either using a class pass or as a single session. You will receive a confirmation email with all the details of the class that you have booked and be able to join us easily online.

Is there anything extra that you would recommend to help me learn French?

Yes. We recommend trialling The French Study which gives you lots of excellent additional resources and guidance to get to your French goals more quickly.

How do I get started?

Either book in with us directly online or get in touch and we will get you started!

LEARN FRENCH. FEEL GOOD.
